1) What is the hardest part about being an author?
Trying to make your work as best as it can be. In my earlier drafts, showing was one of my biggest challenges. I ended up telling a lot. One of my long-term weaknesses was character development, natural sounding and distinguishing dialogue, and grammar. Grammar was easy to improve on, but dialogue and character development is quite tough.
2) Can you give us the synopsis of your book?
A twelve-year-old girl, named Alyssa McCarthy, is living a tough life with her uncle. She is tired of it and wants to make her life better. But an evil wizard is out to get her. He puts harm though her life and kidnaps her to the Fiji Islands. Alyssa meets two mentors who are willing to help her get through the challenges sent out by the evil wizard. Until Alyssa defeats them, she can’t go home.
3) Is this part of a series or a stand alone?
4) How many hours do you write per day/week/month (choose time period yourself)?
At least half of the time I’m awake. When I’m in school, however, it’s less time since my classes can run up to five hours (I’m in college). I can’t really say how many hours since it varies per day, but it’s a lot more than it should be.
5) What is your favorite book?
I’m not sure. I am currently reading the book, The Wizard of Time, which is quite fun to read. Other books I like are School of Fear, Confessions from the Heart of a Teenage Girl, and A Horse to Love.
6) What are you working on now?
I am working on the sequel to From Frights to Flaws. Another evil wizard is out to hunt for Alyssa. I don’t want to give away too many details, though. I’m still in the beginning of the drafts, so things will probably change once I’m done with it.
Thanks for answering my questions!
