Author Interview with J.E. and M. Keep

I’m interviewing author duo J.E. and M. Keep today, the authors of post-apocalyptic scifi novel “When Dreamers Wake”. My questions are bolded.

What’s the hardest part about being an author?

Definitely not turning this into a job. Writing is easy for us. We’ve been doing it so long, and it was a hobby long before it was a career. We’re both so passionate about writing, but being authors, we quickly found, isn’t just about writing. At least, not when you’re an independent publisher. There’s a lot of work that goes into being an author such as editing, proofreading, marketing… Not to mention there’s always things like blogging and chatting with fans that we love doing and don’t consider work, but it does cut into our writing time.

The worst was definitely editing, which we’re now successful enough to hire others to do for us.

Can you give us the synopsis of your book?

Leon is a survivor. A stud. The end of the world has come and gone, leaving only a handful of remaining people. There’s a lot of different theories about why this happened, and how, and what it all means. Leon, though, doesn’t really question it. He just enjoys the good fortune he had in being left alive and having the skills necessary to prosper in the post-apocalypse.

Some might consider him a player, but like one of the reviews we received, I see him more as a lover.

“I enjoyed the male POV of this story; it helped me to see that Leon meant it every time he told a woman that he wanted her to live with him for the rest of their days. In my opinion, him saying that to multiple partners doesn’t make it any less romantic. He obviously wants a family.”

As someone with a keen sense of how to survive, he’s cautious with people. Yet he wants to trust and open his heart.

Is this part of a series or a stand alone?

We consider it both. While we will definitely be doing more with the character, this is a full book with a satisfying ending. Though there’s still questions, it’s not a cliffhanger, and we think people will enjoy it by itself.

That said, we have written the second part and will be sending that for editing soon.

How many hours do you write per day/week?

It depends. Anywhere from 0 to 60 a week. I don’t think there’s hardly any weeks we don’t write, but sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves and have to stand back.

What is your favourite book in the same genre as yours?

Well, it’s not the same genre as it’s incredibly hard to find something similar to When Dreamers Wake, but we both really enjoy Oryx and Crake. It’s somewhat of an inspiration to us for post-apocalyptic settings, we need to read the latest and final part of the trilogy in fact!

To be honest we don’t read a lot in our ‘genre’, though we write on so many topics it’s hard to even say we have a genre. We look around to history, science, the real world, movies and games for our inspiration mostly. When we do read it’s usually not romance or erotica, but scifi or fantasy, and we envision what it would be like if romance and sex played a bigger role in the characters lives as it does in our own.

What are you working on now?

We have about 10 things in progress, plus 2 things currently with editors, and 1 book about to be released! We have a very full plate, obviously.

The next book that will be coming out is an Urban Fantasy named “Torn and Seduced” and it will be released on November 6th! Make sure to sign up for our Newsletter for notification since we’ll be doing a giveaway for that as well 🙂 (Make sure to enter our current giveaway!)

Torn and Seduced is definitely more aimed at female readers, though because we’re a mixed gender writing team, we think it (as well as When Dreamers Wake) will appeal to both men and women.

When Dreamers Wake

Title: When Dreamers Wake

Author: J.E. and M. Keep

Genre: Post-Apocalyptic SciFi

The Old Gods have risen and moved on, leaving Earth in ruins.

Leon liked that just fine.

He got along better after the collapse of society, and has his own vision for how things should be run: with him in charge of his own fate, with many lovers beneath him.

Yet when he has a run-in with a beautiful and mysterious woman, his life will never be the same.

Author Bio

J.E. & M. Keep love to combine fantasy, scifi, horror, romance and mystery into exciting and titillating novels.

They are long term, loving partners in a very happy relationship and because of this, they love to torture their characters. Dark romance touches all of their stories in one way or another, from elicit trysts to forbidden love.

Some of their work contains dubious consent and erotic pain, so it’s not for the faint of heart. Their stories are often called twisted and arousing — at the same time.

All work is 18+, trigger warnings available on the second page of every book. If you want to hear about new releases, sign up for the newsletter!
