I’m hosting an interview with Braxton A. Cosby, author of YA/NA paranormal fantasy novel “The School of Ministry: Windgate”. My questions are bolded, responses are in regular font.
1) What is the hardest part about being an author?
I think it is the challenge of trying to get the images in my head to translate onto paper or pixels if you will, with the same degree of fervor and clarity as I see them; without overstating it. There are so many ideas that writers play around with – speaking for myself – that I sometimes have to compartmentalize it so that there is a succinct flow to it. The delivery is so critical because it sets up the next chapter and even sometimes the next book.
2) Can you give us the short synopsis of your book?
The Windgate tells the story of a young man (Ziv) who is on a quest of discovery for the truth. The truth about his past, his identity and his future. Along the way, he discovers that he has talents and gifts, to see demons and to also stop or manipulate time. He is recruited by a secret society and trains to master these skills, while searching for the love of his life Stephanie who has mysteriously gone missing right around the time of his recruiting. Ziv also finds himself caught up in a double love triangle and must somehow make the choice between going back to the life he’s know, or the adventure awaiting him in the uncertain future.
3) Is this part of a series or a stand alone?
This is the first book in a 5 book series.
4) How many hours do you write per day/week?
About 2-3 hours per day, give or take a few on the weekend.
5) What is your favourite book in the same genre as yours?
I have real love for The Hunger Games. Not only do I love the story, but the writing of Collins is dynamite.
6) What are you working on now?
The sequel to The Windgate. Along with a few other surprises for my other YA story that is set to come out in early 2014. Plus, the launch of my new entertainment studio Cosby Media Productions.
About The Book
Author: Braxton Cosby
Genre: YA/NA Paranormal Fantasy
TO CHOOSE, IS FATE!
A young man named Ziv struggles to find his place in life after both of his parents are murdered. Orphaned and alone by the age of six, he bounces in and out of foster homes hopeless and afraid, wondering if he will ever find a path to happiness. He resolves to accept a life of depravity, until one day he discovers he possesses the gift of sight: to see creatures from the afterlife, but not angels…demons! Ziv is recruited by The School of Ministry, a secret society that promises to help him find his best friend Stephanie, who has gone missing. But there is one catch: he must agree to join them in their quest to eradicate evil and protect the weak. Ziv learns that he is a “Conduit,” which allows him to cross over into the spirit world and transcend time itself. When he is partnered with two other young men who have similar gifts, the unlikely trio is trained in the mastery of weapons and the art of Shouting, during treacherous challenges of the tortuous Quad in preparation for their mission: to secure the Windgate. An untimely love triangle clouds Ziv’s judgment, forcing him to choose between the love of his life and the new female interest Evan. Ziv becomes entrenched in a quest of identity, love, and will, until he comes face to face with pure evil itself–Akabod, the spiritual prodigal son to the School of Ministry and a master of talents.
