Today it’s interview time! I’m interviewing J.W. Baccaro, author of coming-of-age fantasy novel “Crossing Forbidden Lines”. My questions are bolded, J.W.’s responses are in regular font.
1) What’s the hardest part of being an author?
I’d have to say the fear of not getting noticed. However, expectations are a part of the problem, or the ego. To expect something can lead one into a depressive state. This comes from fear. It’s a part of the natural ego we humans possess. Therefore, I strive to be satisfied with what I have created. Writing the story was therapeutic for me, and I’ve also received a few emails and comments from people telling me that my books helped them in their lives. There are parallels of forgiveness, mending an egotistical attitude, following your heart and many other factors in existence we all share. I’m happy to have helped those individuals.
2) Can you give us a short synopsis of Crossing Forbidden Lines?
Tragedy strikes Zithel, and the city of monks goes up in flames. The Earth-Wizard Olchemy has disappeared and the army of Asgoth has taken back the Wizard Crystals of the Elements, ready to deliver them into the hands of their master, the Demon Lord Abaddon, where they will be corrupted and used against the very elements they were created to protect, deforming the world to a blackened void.
As Darshun Luthais—the chosen Guardian of earth—emerges from the mystical Shajin Island, having completed his training, ready to combat the forces of evil, he not only finds himself in the center of this chaos, but he also faces a solemn heartbreaking betrayal by the woman he loves and is left dying from a hideous torture inflicted by the Dark Queen.
Although he is healed by a female Elf, Kelarin who he calls his angel, he ignores her plea to relocate the sacred crystals. Instead, he gives into his vengeance and lust for battle by challenging the forces of Darkness head on—including the Demon Lord, a decision that may seal the fate of the whole world.
3) Is this part of a series, or stand-alone?
Crossing Forbidden Lines is book two in the Guardian Series. It is not a stand-alone book. The crisis does not end until book five, “Piercing The Darkness.”
4) How many hours per day do you spend writing?
It fluctuates. The best time for me to write is in the early morning. I usually get up between 4:00 and 5:00am, make my coffee, take my German Shepherds out, have a cup of coffee and puff on my electronic cigarette (coffee flavored, lol), and write for a couple of hours. Then it’s play time with my son! J
5) What is your favorite book in the same genre as yours?
Oh man that’s a hard one…Probably Tolkien’s “Return of the King?” I also love Madeline Howard’s “Rune of Unmaking” saga and Octavia Butler’s “Wild Seed.” I’m also a huge fan of Akira Toriyama’s Dragonball Z manga and anime.
6) What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on my sixth novel. It takes place half a century after my previous series ends. It’s a stand-alone book; however, it’s related to the Guardian Series. But instead of being an epic fantasy, this one is an erotica fantasy. *smiles*
