I’m interviewing Amanda Cowen, author of contemporary romance “Between Friends” today. My questions are bolded, Amanda’s responses are in regular font.
1) What’s the hardest part of being an author?
It’s not coming up with ideas, or hitting the word count, or breathing life into my characters. It’s having trust in me as a writer. Believing in my story and being true to myself. It isn’t easy being a self-published author and not having the power of a publishing house behind your work. But what I’ve realized is that the less time I spend worrying about what I’m writing, the more time I have to pump out another novel!
2) Can you give us a short synopsis of your book?
In my debut new adult novel, one drunken night, Megan risks her life-long friendship with Ben over a flip of a coin (heads, they sleep together, tails, they don’t)…when she wakes up the next morning with Ben in her bed, it makes her question if risking their friendship is the answer to finding true love.
3) Is this part of a series, or stand-alone?
Between Friends is a stand-alone, but I would be lying if I didn’t say that I haven’t flirted with the idea of using one of the male characters from Between Friends to craft a contemporary romance from their POV.
4) How many hours per day do you spend writing?
It varies. Sometimes I spend 5 -6 hours, sometimes I spend only 1 -2 hours. It just depends on the day/night I’m having.
5) What is your favorite book in the same genre as yours?
Hmmm that’s a tough one…but I am going to have to say Wallbanger by Alice Clayton.
6) What are you working on now?
Right now I am working on my next contemporary romance PERFECT SENSE that is anticipated to release Winter 2014. And I am really excited about this novel! I really pushed some of my personal limits when writing this one. I like to read fluffy and I like to write fluffy, but once I started writing this novel, I realized that this time, my story couldn’t be all fluff. Perfect Sense has darker elements than other things I have written before, but no matter what I write, I can guarantee that there will always be a funny and flirty side to my story. I love Quinn, my female lead because she is sassy and driven. And I especially love my male lead, Cash, a hot and demanding jock who always has just the right amount of stubble in every chapter haha. If you want to know more about what PERFECT SENSE is all about, you can read the synopsis provided below! And you can add it to your GOODREADS list by CLICKING HERE!
And he’s every woman’s dirty fantasy in the state of New York.., except one… Quinn Ashby.
Recent graduate of Brown and top of her class, Quinn is whip smart, ambitious and interning as the new marketing director for the Albany Devils Hockey team. The last thing she needs is to waste her time on guys…especially one as lethal to her focus as Cash Brooks.
But once the bad boy hockey star tempts her into his world, threatening her professional future, she’s forced to decide whether to let him into her heart…or to leave him behind forever.

The only way to have a friend is to be one…especially between the sheets…
When neurotically challenged and unlucky in love Megan Daniels is propositioned by her life-long friend Ben Romano with a coin toss (heads, they sleep together, tails, they don’t) the night before they are about to attend a destination wedding, she drunkenly accepts his challenge. But when Megan wakes up the next morning with a bad hang-over and Ben in her bed, she is more than mortified. It isn’t until the tropical heat begins to ignite emotions Megan never believed or thought she could possibly have, when she starts to question if risking their friendship is the answer to finding true love.
A cute and contemporary debut novel, BETWEEN FRIENDS faces one girl’s struggle between the fine lines of friendship and love and the risk of opening up her heart to the possibility of forever.
Amanda Cowen can be found eating cupcakes, singing off-key, or watching a good RomCom when she isn’t trapped on her computer writing stories and delighting her imagination. She has been writing since the ripe age of twelve about ponies and princesses in brightly colored duo-tangs with metallic pens. Thankfully, she now has a Mac with a keyboard where she can write about love, sex and relationships. She is an “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” fanatic, a hater of roller-coasters and a country music junkie. She lives in Thunder Bay, ON where the summers are short and the winters are long.
Her next Contemporary Romance/New Adult Fiction novel PERFECT SENSE will be available in Winter 2014.
