Author Interview Changeling Book Tours

I’m hosting an interview with Amande Meuwissen, author of gay romance “Changeling”. My questions are bolded, Amanda’s responses are in regular font.

What’s the hardest part of being an author?

Marketing. Writing comes easily for me. Editing can be both fun and challenging. Readers rock! And sure, a bad review here or there can really bring you down. But finding the time, effort, and right direction to go with marketing so that more people find and read your work, is always the hardest part.

Can you give us a short synopsis of Changeling?

Changeling is the sequel to Incubus, the second book in the trilogy The Incubus Saga. The series brings together the idea of The Other, gay romance, and how there is no such thing as pure evil or pure good, told through Nathan Grier’s perspective, a seemingly normal human surrounded by the supernatural: his brother Jim, a changeling; his eventual lover Sasha, an incubus; and many other forces raging against him as a powerful dark sidhe strives to claim his soul. It’s about adventure, and family, and realizing who you are and your potential, and that loving someone unexpected doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Changeling picks up right where Incubus left off, with Nathan’s dark fae bounty looming, his romance with Sasha still only just budding, and larger threats on the horizon.

What inspired you to write this book?

I got a lot of inspiration from my obsession with fae lore and Arthurian Legend, though I play liberally with those ideas. The TV show Supernatural played an important role as well, though it was a web comic I once read about a teenage boy with an imaginary incubus for a friend that first got things rolling. That’s when a variation of Sasha, the incubus the saga is named for, first manifested for me, though the rest took a very different turn from there. I also think the world needs a few more bisexual heroes.

How many hours per day do you spend writing?

Depends on the day, but usually one to two. Writing a little each day is very important.

Name your top five favorite books.

1. Good Omens – by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

2. Memnoch the Devil – by Anne Rice

3. Invisible Monsters – by Chuck Palahniuk

4. Ender’s Game – by Orson Scott Card

5. Twilight Watch – by Sergei Lukyanenko

What are you working on now?

Changeling ends on quite a cliffhanger, so I’m diligently working on Book 3 of the Incubus Saga: Sidhe, which brings what starts off as a more localized story to world scale, setting Nathan and the others up to save Earth and the fae realm from coming war and disaster. Then on to a YA GLBT vampire story I’m very excited to get to.
